Macro nutrient Percentage: Is The Recommended 50 - 60% Of Calories From Carbohydrates A Bad Idea?

In 2010, the Dietary Guideline for Americans recommends that 45 to 65 percent of your total daily calories should come from carbohydrates. For example, if you get 1,500 calories a day, between 800 should be from carbohydrates.

So, do you think the advice of 45-65℅ calories coming from carbs is flawed?

Definitely flawed. You should never use percents for nutrition programming. It doesn't work at all. According to the USDA, if more than half the calories comes from fat, fat content must be reduced. This means that over half of your daily calories intake should come from starchy foods, and the rest must cone from protein or fats. However, carbohydrates contains glucose which is bad for insulin levels. Although most of the body energy comes from glucose, carbs can signal the brain causing insulin secretion. In nature sweet means carbs, and carbs means insulin spike.

Why not replace some of that area with protein? I always set up my protein and a calories goal. As long as the protein goal is hit, I'm not picky as to what fills the rest of the calories available in regards to fat/carb % as long as it's from whole source (rice, potatoes, avocados e.t.c).
