Some individuals occasionally have a social drink, but now - a lot less than they used to before. As their stomach has become more sensitive it now struggles a lot more with alcohol. Alcohol makes their stomach very acidy and painful and just generally makes them feel really tired even after a small (gluten free or otherwise) drink. For most people whenever they drink, even the slightest, they feel poisoned and their skin develops a small rash. Within an hour of drinking most people start to sneeze, itch and their nose constantly runs, then get the worst migraine/ sinus headache ever that can last a couple of days. Different strokes for different folks.
The fact is that different individuals with different body's. Most people can handle one drink every once in a great while. They find tequila easier to tolerate than other spirit, but usually it makes them still sick or gives a flare up because of being gluten intolerant. While others don’t like the taste of alcohol so they don’t drink.
Being intolerance to alcohol can develop with years. One does not usually become intolerance to alcohol just like that. I have heard of some individuals who are a very heavy drinker a few years back, but quit drinking due to some reasons, mostly for medical reasons especially Celiac or hypothyroidism and only drank a couple times a year. They drink gin with soda water and white wine without sulphides, but usually everything else that is supposedly “safe” for celiac.
Also, apart from avoiding alcohol because of being intolerance to it, most people just do it because alcohol is not good for their guts. They get really hard clumps in their colon, and that stresses them. Alcohol can really be bad for your gut health.
However, these reactions seems to be from any alcohol made from grain and that is a problem. Sometimes alcohols in oak barrels even if not made from grain. Some alcohol contains brewer's yeast which can cause increase glucose levels in the body. But alcohol with 100% agave tequila and rum from sugarcane is more preferable.
For some individuals who became vegan they may no longer tolerate alcohol. Also, so many empty calories, they'd much rather eat chocolate bar over glass of wine or alcohol any time. If you are calories conscious I did recommend you to minimize alcohol consumption, because only low carb food and drinks will help you to stay or become healthy. Avoiding alcohol will help your body feel amazing and is able to really start healing and feel more better.
Fortunately, you can go gluten free and vegan, drinking GF (gluten free) beer and also white & red wine, and once in awhile tequila. And if you have never been a regular drinker, you should avoid more than two drinks so to prevent hangover. You can always end up feeling sick within a drink or two if you pushed it. It’s just not worth it.
However, even non alcoholic beer can still makes you hungover. So, it is best to reduce it drastically. You can trick your brain by buying a soda streamer and telling yourself that "soda is my beer ". You can also try virgin cocktails like mojito or gym tonic. Most people found that sulfite-free wines are okay. Generally, they don't have more than 2 drinks. They can only handle low/no sulfites (and gluten free which means no wine for them anymore) and seldom intake. What has worked for them best is organic, distilled, 100% tequila. Also, an occasional white claw, Gf beer and spirits... no problem in moderation. And maybe have a seltzer beverage once in a while, usually in a celebratory manner.
It is most times advisable to discontinue alcohol intake if you have serious medical conditions. If you are reactive hypoglycemic and at one point pre- diabetic, say no to alcohol. Also, if you are from a family that has some light weights who don’t react well, you properly got that gene as well. Medical conditions such as gastritis may require you cut out alcohol substance's totally. You may also want to considered avoiding wine too. Not everybody can even handle sulfites in wine, unless it has to be organic with no added sulfites. Red wine with dinner, maybe a cocktail on the weekend is a go. But, some people do gets very sick to their stomach with sweeter things like wine. And this is usually caused by less inflammation in the daily diet.
Yes, inflammation is one reasons you would want to avoid alcohol, especially if you have arthritis rheumatoid. You shouldn't drink much alcohol because of your arthritis rheumatoid. The added sugar makes it way worse. You could do fine with most cider and tequila, but maybe not wine.
The best you can do for yourself is to take away alcohol from your life completely. Never compare yourself with others such as your peers, best friends, coworkers and so on. Don't go bing drinking. Although, it is never to easy to stop drinking alcohol, but it will be easy because you choose it without imposing or force it to yourself. Extreme drinking can make you feel like crap and it is not good for the liver. You must decide that you would do only what supported the life, joy and energy in you.
You should also learn to study yourself. Watch what makes you sensitive, as this can help you plan ahead. I know of individuals who are intolerance to cologne. They always had a splitting headache by the time they apply it to the body. Even smelling cologne makes their face hot. Since cologne contains alcohol, this may be a good reason for the reaction.
There are plenty of gluten free options, so it's personal choice.
