Is There Any Way We Can Extend Our Lifespan? The Average Life Expectancy Of The 21th Century men.

The average Life expectancy for males today is 65.8 years, for females 68.9 years, or approximately 70 years, and this number is decreasing each year.

The dramatic decrease in life expectancy globally towards the end of the twentieth century has renewed interest among scientists in the subject of Longevity and ageing process. This lengthening of life expectancy has been one of the greatest worries of humanity. Demographers tell a surprising story. Young people, instead of the octogenerations and older people now form the fastest growing population group on earth.

What then are the factors that determine our health and the length of our life?

Recent studies have identified some of these. It is know that the sounder your habits, the longer your life may last (no need to be too scared though). Nutritionists have told us that we are what we eat, that is to say, that what you eat influence the state of your health. Instead of overeating, you should eat a balance diet including fruits and plenty of vegetables.

Moderate physical exercise on a regular basis is of immense benefit. You should consult with your doctor on how much exercise and what type are most appropriate for each day. Studies have shown that simple exercises in and around your home, helps regain strength and vitality.

The saying that goes "use it or lose it" applies not only to the muscles but also to the mind. Mental exercise keeps the brain's "telephone lines" alive. Whereas, mental decline or serenity starts the moment you retires and decides to take things easy in the erroneous belief that doesn't have to keep up with the world anymore. Many people fall into this bad habit. You can change this unhealthy habit by being actively engaged in reading, travelling, educational clubs and many more. It is believed that such activities not only lift your spirit but also "rewire" the brain.

Unfortunately, the state of medical care available in some countries is one factor affecting life longevity. In developed countries, advances in medical science have dramatically improved healthcare delivery. However, the reverse has been the case in poor countries of Africa and Asia. For example, in the USA, only 1 women in 12,500 dies from heart-related causes, whereas 1 in 21 dies in Africa from the same causes. That speaks volumes about the deplorable state medical services in these countries.

You might not able to predict or protect against the unpredictable, like random accidents, but you can use your self-discipline to control the controllable in your life. Your goal should be to defy the averages and live to age ninety, ninety-five, or even longer.
