The body doesn't do well with artificial sweeteners - forget aspartame and any of the sugar alcohols. Most of them tastes like metal and usually overwhelms whatever it's supposedly sweetening. Additionally, there's the effect of the brain saying "Aha, we have something sweet here, so we'll message the insulin - generators to get busy". People whose bodies have been sugar-damaged should probably stop trying to consume sweet-tasting foods and beverages. All they do is maintain the craving for sugar, regardless of how fat-adapted and in-ketosis they are.
There are various sugar substitutes available in grocery stores, such as STEVIA that contains fillers in some of it brands. Some add Maltodextrin as a filler, blended and most of the contents are high. I think if most people tried straight STEVIA, they probably wouldn't like it very much. STEVIA has an aftertaste you may never get used to. However, the sweet leaf STEVIA (I have grown STEVIA myself) is truer than most in it purest form. A few leaves in my tea, and it was extremely sweet. Easy to air dry and grind up to use. I always use a hint of salt just to take the slight bitterness out that comes in all STEVIA. While most people think STEVIA is a synthetic, sweet leaf liquid STEVIA is purely natural, no carbs, no calories and will not spike insulin. Organic STEVIA is not mixed with Erythritol or Maltodextrin, which are synthetic. STEVIA is actually a plant. Is STEVIA a Synthetic Or Chemically Made?
STEVIA is a plant; completely natural. It is organic and not man-made, although most store-bought brands may contain fillers (you need to watch out for Maltodextrin).
Just for clarity, STEVIA is not synthetic. Synthetic suggests it is not found in nature, such as Sucratose, Saccharin, Aspartame; which are man-made chemicals which do not occur in nature. Per the STEVIA website, sweet leaf STEVIA sweetener is derived from the STEVIA plant, an herb native to Paraguay and the South America, Mexico and other tropical areas.
STEVIA is also known as STEVIA Rebaudians, a plant they is member of the Chrysanthemum family. It's not just a sweetener, but made by extracting STEVIA Glycoside from the leaves of the STEVIA plant and purifying them to remove some of the bitterness. Although STEVIA is mostly used as a sugar substitute, it's about 100 to 300 times sweeter then table sugar, but has zero calories, zero carbohydrates and non-glycemic response. Sweet leaf STEVIA sweetener contains three ingredients - STEVIA leaf extract, Silica and Insulin (a soluble vegetable fiber) and won't spike your blood sugar.
Should I Used STEVIA Sweetener?
It depends on use. Most people like STEVIA better in drinks/foods such ad tea, coffee or baking. However, why bother adding? Do you really have to add a sweetener? On some things yes, but you still crave sugar. You could get comfortable with it, giving you hard time getting back on track and also stall your Ketosis or weight-loss. The flavour of sweet, natural or artificial can be addictive and signal your brain carb are coming, causing insulin secretion. Moreover, some people get headaches from STEVIA, and most branded one's can mess with your digestive system. If you get your STEVIA from supermarket or online, watch out for Maltodextrin. Maltodextrin is rotten stuff and cab affect your gut. Also, STEVIA is in the family of ragweed so it may have impact on those who have allergies.
