Vegetarian yes.. Vegan I would disagree.. It takes ALOT! It just takes more effort and planning but generally it's not the most efficient way to build muscle and typically you'll lean out but not bulk. There are 22 different amino acid profiles within food.. nine of them are essential for muscle growth.. all nine.. are found in milk and eggs.. they are called "Complete Proteins" its not just about protein intake. The bioavailability is a factor as well.

Bodybuilding as a vegetarian is definitely possible, there are plenty of people out there vegetarians and few vegan that have built amazing physiques. It’s best to get your macros, vitamins and minerals from whole foods but it doesn’t hurt to supplement occasionally. Most people have built 15+ kg over the last year and a half on a dairy free, and mainly vegetarian diet, they only have fish maybe once a week. So yes it’s definitely possible.

I wouldn't totally rule out any possibility of building with vegan. Like I said before, it takes time. You can definitely build muscles being vegan if you add that with lifting heavy, routine exercises. When you do regular exercises your muscles will start developing to create stability. And fortunately, you don't have to be protein deficient. Seriously, I understand why people think that you can only get protein from animal sources, however that is not true. There is no such thing as protein deficiency, at least to an extent. You just have to get the protein source from different foods to get the complete source of protein.

Our body is blind. The body doesn't know which kind of food we are taking. Your body needs balance macros and micros and minerals that's all. And moreover you can fulfill your protein...from vegetables too. Muscle building starts occur when you will fatigue your muscles through workout. Muscle cells have to breakdown for growth. So you can definitely build with vegan with proper nutrition.

There is so much protein in wholefood and get plenty of protein from plant based foods. You just need to check the food combinations to make sure you don't have any deficiencies. You can eat light life meat substitutes and they have less calories to protein ratio than any meat, help to tone up. Eating a lots meat doesn't guarantee you get that big, or lean, even lean chicken, there are veggies and lots of food you can eat for protein that is way better for you than just meat.
