A visit to the doctor offers him two options - can choose between 1) Straight testosterone once every two weeks, and 2) HCG + HMG together.
So now, what are some advice or pros and cons between each.
With HCG, how can it be compared with TRT. What is the best choice for a young adult with low testosterone levels.
Managing testosterone comes with managing many other hormones. You need to check estrogen and other bio chemical profiles monthly or yearly, for life. I would advise you try HCG HMG treatment first. If it fails to jump start your HPTA then TRT for life. With HCG, you keep the balance as it is.
The HCG therapy is aimed at kick starting your HTPA which, if it works, would enable you to naturally produce testosterone and father children.
TRT will not address sterility. You will feel better and develop typically, but you will probably never have children.
This been said, I recommend you try the HCG therapy. You can't see it now, but being a Dad rocks, and being sterile may reduce your appeal to women in years to come. Although, to an extent, there's very little difference between the effects of HCG and testosterone other than fertility - only if it worked on you. And yeah, I think its effectiveness depends on how well your pituitary responds to the HCG and HMG. So try to do HCG treatment if possible. Run it for 6 months - year. If it fails to kick start the natural production, then go on test + clomid/HCG + AIs, if you want to stay fertile.
You can also try pushing for testosterone first or you could just wait and see how effective the treatment is. HCG probably won't raise your T enough by its own, but it could kick start your system. I'd advise you try HCG + HMG by itself for a few months, see what your levels are at. However, HCG in high doses should ideally not be used in the long-term, as it will become less effective over time.
Btw, if you are purely asking which one is more effective for puberty, I did say they could both be equally as useful, depends on what raises your T more. but with any protocol you choose make sure HCG is included. You should ask your doctor about it more.
Doctors adhere to the philosophy of doing the least harm and trying to get the best outcome with the least amount of interference with the body. So they usually go from least to most invasive treatment. This is a good approach though it can be trying on the patient's patience.
HCG + HMG would ideally be a short term treatment to kick start your body's own system. Clomid therapy is similar. The idea is for your body to restart and maintain higher levels of hormones once the temporary treatment has run its course.
Testosterone therapy would be looked as the next step if HCG + HMG doesn't work. It would be a permanent treatment for the rest of your life.
Both treatments have side effects that you would have to manage (possible high blood pressure, high E2, water retention), just one is much more permanent than the other. TRT + HCG would be the best option. Just monitor you E2 carefully, since your skeleton isn't finished developing at that young age.
For those who have never actually went through puberty at all, and hoping for a deeper voice, growing taller and having more energy, HCG can help it happen lol. But be ready to throw a lot of money on the HCG and HMG. However, could be covered under insurance as this isn’t considered “off label” use, and is actually treating what it was designed for.
At first 2) and of it fails and you cannot restart your HPTA then 1) I would really advise you to inform yourself about it. Remember education is the entry drug for everything!
