From Fenugreek in southern Europe, western Asia, to Ashwagandha in India, down to Ginseng root for the Chinese or the Rhodiola rosea root native for the Siberian. What are the benefits or effects traditional herbs have in boosting testosterone levels or weight loss?
Is it fair to describe it simply as "supertition" or "magic"?
Well, that is how many people - particularly Europeans have described it in the past.
What are the advantages that herbal medicines have over "modern" western drugs? For the fact that herbal medicines are natural, personally blend from mother nature itself, does that means their side effects are minor compare to "modern" western drugs?
Actually, we can't say that for all herbal medicines. Some traditional doctors or herbalist as popularly called, uses these "Ayurvedic" herbs in a volume/measurement that is uncalled for. However, thanks to advanced technology, most international communities have seen the advantages of traditional medicines and have invested a lots of money to improve them for better. It is very rare to are a supplement that wouldn't contain 3 or more herbal ingredients. Many percentage of the world population are now served by traditional medical practitioners, and loads of studies have been put in place so to make sure herbal medicines are safe for human consumption. From Food And Drugs Agencies (FDA) to the Centre For Scientific Research In Plant Medicine. These agencies are needed for the growth of herbal medicine, they tests and catalogues traditional remedies.
An example of this are mostly done in African countries. The founder of the Centre For Scientific Research In Plant Medicine, Accra Ghana - Dr Ampofu, qualified at Edinburgh university, first grew interest in herbal medicine when practising in a health centre in United Kingdom in the 1940s. Herbal remedies are now well user today, however, many still has doubts about the conditions traditional medicine works, which are not always very hygienic. Some of these traditional herbs are not produced in a GMP certified laboratory. The ingredients are not always scientifically tested for their safety and purity.
The fact is, most western medicines uses plant extracts in about a quarter of it drugs. In supplement industry, 50% treatment comes from plant - through it is recommended that patients use the western way for diagnoses and cure for fatal illnesses. The true remains, traditional medicines have been used to control and manage many disease such as malaria, and chronic illnesses such as asthma, cancer, even the famous antibacterial drug "penicillin" was made using moss plant.
When we are down to using traditional herbs for weight loss or boosting testosterone levels, lots of herbal ingredients have been used for years to treat critical conditions such ad erectile dysfunction, anxiety, deification of the liver and kidney, reduce glucose level and to enhance sexual functions. Most weight loss and testosterone capsules are produced through modern technology with pure, natural plants which grow only in the "kingdom of green vegetation" namely China, India, western Africa and some part of Europe. You might have notice some of this ingredients on popular supplements. They includes -: Ginseng, Nettle leaf extract, Broccoli, Shila jit extract, Yacon, Bladderwrack extract and many more. Also some of these ingredients have been converted into premium compound like Sensoril®, an advanced trademark formula, a powerful compound shown by studies to help support healthy cortisol balance in the body.
It is believed that herbs could also conquer diabetes. They have prescribed the leaves of a local plant, boils and drunk as tea e.g Moriga or lime leaf e.t.c; the results, they say have been favorable in all cases where patients have take it for 3 months or longer. Unlike insulin, it does not have unpleasant side effects. However, you are advise not totally believe the absorption that herbal medicines are 100% side effects free. Nothing in life is 100%. You might not notice the effect right away, however, it's good to think of the long term effect it may cause you.
Many of these herbal medicines do not undergo correct procedures before selling to the public. During the past few years, the FDA have pulled out some of these herbal medicines, because it was discovered that they contained Subutramine, avFDA banned appetite suppressant used in weight loss drugs. Several studies have shown Subutramine to be very dangerous, as it can elevate the risk of heart attacks, cardiovascular disease and strokes in patients with past history.
Another herbal ingredient with side effects is Gamboge. It is a gum like substance found mostly in the trunk of Garcinia Sunbury tree. Gamboge is said to be natural, but unfountly. Serious safety concerns have been raise to it constipation and combination with other laxatives.
Ephedia is also one herbal ingredient to watch out in weight loss supplements. The plants is said to help stimulate nervous system, increase energy and burn fats in the body. However, in 2004 the (FDA) banned it from dietary supplement concluding that it is not safe for human consumption has it causes nausea, anxiety, mood changes, high blood pressure, heart attack and even death.
Fenugreek has Alao been believed to cause enlarge prostate gland if used for a long time.
There have been a lot of stories surrounding the use of herbal medicines, especially using the term "cure". An analysis carried out by FDA laboratory on November 2014 confirmed that most testosterone booster contains hidden ingredient called Sulfoaildenafil, the same ingredient in Viagra, a FDA approved prescription medication for erectile dysfunction. This ingredient has been shown to interact with nitrates found in other prescription drugs, which may cause allergic reactions, lower blood pressure to a dangerous level. It is better to say traditional medicines should be use under close medical supervision.
Traditional medicines could be developed to combat many fatal illnesses and diseases, however, we may yet to find how traditional healers maybe able to provide a self cure with them. You should be very careful when using the term "cure" when using herbal medicines. The amount of nutrients needed for each individual varies according to age, activity, body mass or condition, sex - even climate. Therefore, a herb which works for one individual may not be suitable for another. It is recommended to seek advise, get tested before seeking traditional remedies. It is true that one herbal ingredient can work for different purposes, even through it was intended for one main purpose, which can be harmful in a long run. This is the advantages of "modern" western drugs, they are specifically made for the purpose you want them for.
One other disadvantage of traditional herbal ingredients are that, most farmers uses pesticides such as herbicides, fungicides and insecticides. However, when thee plants are sprayed with these chemicals, some fall on the plants and some fall on the soil. So, when such plants are used, the pesticides accumulate in the person body, building up to toxic levels and casing them harm. Today, farmers are encouraged to use pesticides with great care and only when essential. Scientists have been able to develop these ingredients in advanced formula, carefully selected and packaged in certified laboratories.
In recent time, traditional medicines have sometimes been extraordinary successful in solving problems of female infertility, erectile dysfunction, blood purification and many more. As a result if such research, there is a growing interest among people of all continent in examining the part that traditional medicines can play within modern health services.
